Ingredients

      1    big; yellow cucumbers
      1 qt white cider vinegar
      1 tb salt
      1    red or green food coloring
      1 ts whole cloves
      5 c  sugar
      1 ts celery seed

Instructions

Use cucumbers that are big and yellow. Peel them and cut out the seeds;
cut into sticks about 2x1/2-inch. Soak 24 hours in lime-water (1 cup lime
to 1 gallon boiled water). Stir a time or two.

Wash with cold water, then let soak in cold water for 3 hours. Mix
vinegar, sugar and seasoning together; pour over cucumber sticks and let
set overnight.

Next day, boil hard for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until clear; add
food coloring. Pack in sterile jars and seal.
